Default 2010 Q5 Engine Control Module failed

So i have about 53,000 miles on my Q5. One day i was driving on the fwy in stop and go traffic and then all of sudden my car just turned off with a huge green warning light on the dash saying EPS. Luckily i was able to turn the engine coming to stop.

Took it to the dealer and they ran a diagnostic claiming my engine control module needs to be replaced as well as the wiring since it burnt out. The parts came out to $900 and the labor was 17 hours! i almost fainted but then i remembered i bought the extended warranty when the lease was up. Anyone else experienced this?

Moral of the story...buy japanese lease german (unless u get the extended warranty).

And did you ask the dealer why? If not, why would you ok a $900 repair with no indication as to why? What if it happens again?

Sorry, I don't buy Japanese...

They just told me that module went bad and that wiring that grounded the units burned out.

I would call AOA and request a good will repair as the car is just out of warranty! 9 times out of 10 if you are calm and cool they will help you out! "More bees with honey" type thing. Plead your case calmly.

You think on those Japanese cars that every 2-3 months have the recall thousands of cars due to various mistakes

Top Cars have faults and problems (Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini..)

My ECM flaked out at 6,000. Replaced under warranty with no comment.

You got scammed ECM is covered by 8 year 80k mile warranty. Call AoA then speak to the service manager.

8/80 ? I thought the car was done at the standard 4/50.
Are you referring to him getting scammed for buying the extended?

Confused a bit

When i was buying the vehicle at about 45,000 miles i decided to buy the extended warranty on the car.

I looked on AoA site i only see a 4 year or 50,000 miles warranty for new cars.
no mention of the 8year or 80k mile warranty. im just glad i didn't pay a cent to get this fixed.

So far i had minor issues with the car.

LED light housing broke replaced by daeler
Sunroof rattle fixed twice finally after taking it apart dealer
ECM died replaced by dealer.

I don't mind the LED light and rattles but ECM is a pretty big issue to cut out. I guess crap happens
