No the dealer lied to you Federal Law states ECM's are covered for 8 year / 80k miles. Extended warranties are the best. I run an Audi service department and I think a person is a fool to not purchase an extended warranty. The ECM should be no cost to you. Read the warranty owners manual.

Interesting
http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt
"How Long Do the Emissions Warranties Apply to Individual Parts of My
Vehicle?
For 1995 and newer model year vehicles, emission control and
emission related parts are warranted for the first 2 years or 24,000
miles of vehicle use. Specified major emission-control components are
warranted for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles of vehicle use."

Well well well, aren't you a person to have around.
I was not aware of the ECM coverage specifics. Thanks
I'm at 33k now and pricing the platinum Pure protection warranty from my dealer and Troy Dietrich. Looking at the 6/60 for 3k $.

Those are great prices I just paid$5000 for my e39 M5. Generally warranties are cheaper at original purchase than later but that is an awesome deal. My M5 had another contract hitch cost $3500 but the repairs in 5 years were over $14,000.
