I bet there is a setting or adjustment you can make using VAG COM.
if a couple of people (one with the hot seats and one with the not so hot seats) could do a full dump from their VAG COM then we might be able to work it out by doing a diff. on all the codes. Even if we just get the dump from a "hot seat" version it might help as I definitely have unimpressive seat heaters but mine is also a diesel so the differences might be too great.
Is anyone willing (and able)?

Coolieman, there was a change made beginning with the 2010 Q5 that made a significant difference in the heat output to the seats. Someone here, maybe FitzLA, compared the 2009 with the 2010 and said that a 3 setting in the 2009 was similar to the 6 setting in the 2010. The 2010 (and I'm guessing 2011, based on comments here) seats barely get warm.
I'm guessing you have a 2009 Q5.

Wasn't me that said that, but I will for sure check. I haven't had a chance to use the heated seats in my '10 yet, but next time I go up to the mountains I will check. I do remember them being VERY hot in the '09 Q5. I hope they're as good in the '10 since it's forecast to be a very cold winter at our mountain place.

I tried the heated seats at level 6 on my new 2011 2.0 P+ and it got quite hot very quickly ( outside temp 35F). I had to turn it of while my rear was still Medium-Rare. Didnt try it at a lower setting since I was cold.

I really don't get it either, I live in Wi. and we have had some 16degree days already and with the setting at 5 or 6 I can't take it for long. I find it hard to believe one could possibly need it any warmer.
