Default 2011 Q5 oil consumption

My 2011 Q5 2.0 needed a quart of oil at 19,500 miles (oil change at 15,000) and now again at 23,200 miles the indicator says add another quart. This has apparently been an issue with this motor. Apart from a few other fairly minor problems...a leak under front dash, passenger window needing repair, somewhat jerky transmission at slower stop and go speeds, front seats that don't heat well... it has otherwise been a nice handling care to drive. What I am worried about is possible long term problems from the oil eating engine. The dealer says they do not fix this unless you are adding 1 quart every 1,000 miles. Is it time to trade it in while still under warranty? I usually like to keep a car for 7-8 years but this one is worrisome.

Please call Audi of America and have the dealer start a consumption test. If you Q5 consumes more than 1/4 qt oil in 600 miles or 1 quarter in less than 3000 miles it is considered abnormal. If so you might be a candidate for piston replacement.

Thanks for your reply. I will try Audi of America and see if the dealer will do the oil comsumption check. It sounds like they have people coming in regularly to top off their oil for this problem. There is also this information from a NY Times article.

Audi owners of various Audi models are experiencing high oil consumption, particularly when much of their driving is in stop-and-go traffic. In T.S.B. 101103 issued on Nov. 3, Audi said that 2009-11 A4, A5, A5 Cabriolet and Q5 models with a 2-liter turbocharged engine should get a new crankcase pressure-regulating valve.

Audi told dealership service departments to install the valve if a customer complained about oil use. The front crankshaft seal will also need to be replaced when the valve is installed.

The front crankshaft seal and breather valve fix 80% of the consumption issues. This is the first part of the test. You then drive the vehicle until the oil min light comes on then drive back to the dealer. They then complete the 2nd part.
