Default 2012 Audi Q5: Hit a Deer, Does it show up in carfax

Hello There,

FINALLY! It happened . I had hit a deer last night. I observed three things on my dash board

1) LED Daylight Running Lights were broken
2) TPMS Failed
3) Stabilization Program Fail!

Left side of the car got damaged little bit. Filed a Claim with my insurance and Called 911 on the accident location to report the accident.

Planning to get all the repairs done at Audi Shop. The question i had is, does it show up in my carfax?

Thanks,
Veera

It might, so I would fully document the damage including taking pictures to show to any prospective future buyer. The damage doesn't sound bad so I doubt that anyone would be scared off if they could be provided with information regarding the severity of the damage.

Only if the deer reports it to Carfax.

Seriously, if the damage is fairly minor, I agree with NABS4 that it shouldn't affect the value should Carfax pick it up (which is not a given - they are far from infallible). Documenting it could help though just in case it's an issue down the road.

I've had more than my fair share of minor body repair incidents over the years and as the cars were properly repaired, it was never an issue, Carfax or not, selling it privately or trading it in to a dealer.

Only if you have it repaired through insurance.

Don't Some states you have to disclose any known damage to your car?

Or is that just when selling a home?

Carfax gets info from insurance companies and police (among many others), so yes it will show up on carfax, and it probably will affect your resale value, since most buyers prefer accident free cars. The only way to prevent carfax from receiving accident info would be not to file a police report and fix it on your own in a private shop.

Not necessarily. Wife's parents had their Hyundai in 3 bad accidents (none their fault) and none of the accidents were reported to carfax. The one accident caused the car to be in the shop for 4 months.

@NABS4 & @snagitseven
Good one..lol...The deer wasn't there at the location, neither me nor cops found it. So no chance to Deer reporting to carfax. ..Hope it is safe! Thank you for your reply and the links.

It didn't strike me to document the pics and all the other stuff. Thanks for your suggestion, will do that and as you guys mentioned it might help me in future.

@koobah - Thanks for you reply. I have reported cops and insurance on the spot, as i don't want to be in trouble of being caught for some other stuff. Hope you got it. Will get the damage repaired at Audi Shop or Shop suggested by insurance.

@Buckeye96 - You just gave me sigh of relief. Thank you for your reply.

Default Body shop suggested by Insurance or Audi Shop?

I have visited Body shop suggested by My Insurance Folks, I checked with them whether this incident will be on car fax or not, he told that question will be answered by insurance folks only.

Can someone please suggest, whether to get the damage get repaired at Body shop suggested by Insurance or Audi Shop?. I got $250.00 deductible and had got car rental covered during the repair.
