After about 800 miles in the 2013 Q5 3.0 we feel that the Nav in the 2009 Q5 was better.
1. Nav is slow to respond with directions and sometimes does not even announce that you need to turn, so you have to be looking at Nav
2. Google is nice but not much value
3. Phone is slow to hang up, sometimes takes 15-20 seconds, and pressing hang-up does nothing
4. Alternative routes don't seem to factor in traffic

Echo that on my 2013 I don't have any of these issues. Occasionally yes google maps is slow but i attribute that to reception in the area I live in between high risers. My only real knock that its not a touch screen but that's a different story.

So far, our '13 seems stellar. I think some of what you are experiencing could easily be attributed to signal inconsistencies (weather, location, etc.).
But not only does ours seem fine. It seems flat out fast at acquisition and response.

My experience with the Nav has been great. I don't have any of the issues you are talking about. I think there's a setting in the Nav area that gives you the choice of short commands or long commands, or something like that. One gives a lot more direction than the other.

Although I think the Voice Recognition is slightly better in the 2013 compared to the 2012 but it is slower with directions
