Indeed. There is no such thing as a "vehicle class" as far as I'm concerned. Years ago, I bought an STi. Do you know what the final car on the short list was before I chose that? Honda S2000. Other than both being sporty, there is not a single other similarity between the two.

Before we bought the new 3.0T Q5 for my wife, we tested all kinds of other crossovers, totally varying in size and cost. Granted, we never actually looked at VW (maybe we should have?) because I figured the Q5 was always going to be a better value for what we/she wanted.

But people (at least semi-enthusiasts) compare what they prefer, not what lines up on a spreadsheet.
