Default 2014 2.0T

Has there been any news on a new higher output 2.0T for the Q5 ? I've not heard anything yet, but I see the 2014 VW GTI is getting a new 2.0T with something like 220 hp and better than 250 lb-ft of torque. I can't imagine that the 2014 Q5 would be offered with less output than the GTI. And doesn't Europe already have an upgraded 2.0T with combined port and direct injection ?

In Europe, Australia, Middle East, sales of the model Q5 2.0TFSI with 225 HP who came out with a new face lift
Really strange that no in the offer model with 225HP in U.S. and Canada

Audi has previously stated that the US engine recertification requirements for the new 2.0T would cost too much, thus it wasn't introduced this year. 2014 maybe?

I recall hearing the same thing last year. However, to continue to manufacture two different 2.0T engines for different markets doesn't seem to be a good long term strategy. If the GTI is getting the Euro engine with direct + port injection, it would be really shocking to see the old 2.0T carry on for another year here.

I've been trying to find more details on the GTI engine but so far all I have come across are the power specs (220 hp and 258 lb-ft).

It's not particularly long-term, as the next-gen Q5 is due MY 2016 so it'd be for two years only. The debut of the US 2.0T and the 225PS engine seem to line up so we might actually have it (keep in mind power the HP figures here are always lower due to emissions requirements); but even if not, recertification for only two years doesn't necessarily make sense for them.

Also, the Golf platform is new so updating the transverse 2.0T makes a lot of sense, but doesn't really affect the longitudinal 2.0T especially since pretty much all vehicles using it (A4, A5, Q5) are in the final couple years before a new generation and sales probably wouldn't increase for a small HP bump to pay for the recert costs. If we don't have the current 2.0T, then look for it (or a further-updated one) in 2016.

HP figures are not lower because of emission regs, the coefficient for calculation of power from KW is different in the US and Euro systems.

Not a huge difference:
1 kW = 1.36 hp (Metric System)
1 kW = 1.34 hp (British System)
