This new 2014 2.0T engine was used in European 2013 Q5s, so there is over one year of real world history on this newer 2.0T and there doesn't seem to be many complaints. It's completely different (new head, turbo, added indirect fuel injector, cam timing actuator, etc.) Most techs don't even know that yet. I'm coming off a 3.0 A4 and really can't complain about my 2.0T compared to that. My big hurt with the 2014, 2.0T is that it's sweet spot for cruising is 85-90 mph, I have a very hard time keeping it near 70...
Thanks Bob good to hear that. The 3.0 I changed to should be here in two weeks where the 2.0 I had ordered was another 6 weeks out so I'm going to stay with 3.0 so I can star enjoying the Q sooner.

I know this thread is targeted towards the 2014 model but just FYI.

I have a 2013 2.0 with 4,200 miles in 8 months of ownership. Recently it's been showing just a little less than 1/2 qt. low.

The dealership will top it off (tomorrow) at n/c. Still a pain with a late model vehicle, but I will keep a closer eye on the oil level than I've had to in other recently owned cars.

It sounds like the 2014 updates may have corrected or at least reduced this issue.

i have a 2013 q5 2.0t as well...i have topped off once already at 3,300km.....i have asked 2 dealers and they said for the first 0 up to 10,000km, the car will consume more oil than usual..

even though it's a pain in the ***, but at least my dealer offers to drop off the 5w40 for free in my office...couldn't be worse...

My 2013 2.0T Q now has 1900 miles on it and just this week the oil dropped one bar from max - my guess is that it has burned 1/5 of a quart of oil now in its first 1900 miles. Personally I'm joyed by this as I thought it would be a lot more with all the oil burn talk I heard prior to me purchasing it, I was expecting it to drop in its first 500 miles of break in. So unless it speeds up it burning rate I will be down about 1/2 quart at the 5K mile mark for its oil change. Only to lose 1/2 quart in its first 5k miles would be simply awesome I would think. At this point I have no concern or worry about oil burn so far, but I do plan on keeping a watchful eye on it as it is always on my mind.

But the big question is, did you have to bring them to the shop for anything other than regular maintenance?

I have a 2012 2.0T and haven't had any problems with excessive oil consumption. I don't think this is a problem for any other 2012's, so its safe to say it isn't going to be a problem on the 2013 and 2014's either.

I traded in my 2002, 3.0 A4, 60K miles, so in 12 years, I did my own oil changes, 1 set of brakes, 1 battery, and 2 sets of tires, about $1500 cost of ownership for 12 years. The car ran and looked like new, the trade-in tech that test drove it said "do you really want to get rid of this great car". The dealer never really me saw after I bought the A4 except for the ignition coils recall.

I doubt that that the Q5 will have such a good reliability record. In 3 weeks owning the Q5 it doesn't even come close to the quality and performance of my old 2002 A4.

I took my Q5 to the dealership this morning to have it topped off (it was down 1/2 qt.). I went ahead and had them to the initial 5k service and now will keep a close eye on things. The SA said that 1/2 qt. in 8 months/4,600 miles wasn't bad. From now on I'll keep a qt. of oil in the car or garage to use when needed.

Still seems funny in a nearly $50k vehicle to keep a bottle of oil handy but that's the nature of the beast.

I hope the Q5 comes somewhere close in terms of reliability! It's my first Audi and I was scared going into the purchase because my best friend had a B5 A4 back in high school, that thing was a piece of junk!

According to Consumer Reports with the 3.2 going away, the Q5's predicted reliability has improved to average. Since the 3.0 has been around a while I would think reliability should remain at least the same or continue to go up a bit. I hope so.

Bob,Couple of question here. On your A4, you say cost of ownership was 1500.00, but what about the routine maintenance from Audi?
More curious about your comment about the Q5 not coming close to the quality and performance of the A4. How so?

Bob
