Yes the deposits blocking the oil ring oil return holes can cause excessive oil ring oil overload to consume oil.
On that note, a lot of the 2.0T oil consumption problems that I know of were due to actual broken rings, and these broken ring pieces could cause cylinder wall scoring that enhances oil consumption. Thus no amount of de-carboning is going to fix that issue.

Also was hoping to get an update on this at some point too as this is one of the more interesting active threads. Curious if the solvent helped or if the rings are broken.
