I have a 2014 Q5 - TDI and I did not order the factory hitch. I noticed that the bumper cover is ready and I want to add one for my bike carrier. will like to know if someone has tried this. See pictures.

Lots of posts on this subject if you perform a search on this forum. But, yes you can add one to your Q by paying the dealer to order and install, approximately $1500.00. Some have installed a Curt hitch for less. If you perform the search, you'll find a lot of pictures of both and prices paid. Too many for me to link here.

Just reporting what the Audi Tech Manager (i.e. lead mechanic) told me when I was in last week: I asked about brake controllers and trailer wiring if a person goes with a U-Haul/Curt/whatever hitch. (I got the factory hitch/wiring.) His answer: "We just had a lady in here (as in the day before I was in there) reporting all kinds of electrical issues on her Q5. (Vehicle was under warranty and apparently relatively new.) I started troubleshooting and noticed the U-haul hitch. Issues all came from inept wiring on U-Haul's part. Total bill to fix = $5000." (Yeah, 5 grand.) He told her to sue U-haul. Obviously not Audi's issue. I asked how the heck can anyone screw up wiring to that tune. He said with all the interconnected computers and modules these days, you can't even poke a wire with a 12V wire tester without throwing a code. Again, just passin' along what I heard. That's progress for ya....

I believe I read that they get disabled only when you have a trailer attached. Cause it will always have something in the sensors.. otherwise they work as normal.

How does it know when one is attached? Only via the trailer brake/lighting cable? If I just attach my bike rack is it going to know and not constant tone?
