I believe that you need the front floor vents selected. Yes it is all controlled by the front controls, there isn't any blower in the rear, it's just what small amount of heat or cold makes it way to the back through the console tunnel vent ducting. It really isn't a lot as my family members complain that it doesn't do much at all. Some Audi models have a dedicated HVAC in the rear, but not any Q5 that I'm aware of.

You need to turn Auto off, select Floor vents (or both Center and Floor which will give less air to the rear) with the Vent Mode Selector, set your fan speed to your liking, obviously fan at 12 will give the most rear air.

I never used Auto A/C since I got the Q5, I'm a manual mode person. I set my vents for both Center and Floor, set the fan speed to 7 and I leave it there
forever. I just change the temp to 75 F from about Nov to May, no A/C. Then hit the A/C ON button, recirc on, set it at 68 F from June to Oct. I live in PA.

Thank you for the explanation to this convoluted and inadequate ventilation system .
It's officially my first gripe with the car

Yup, I totally thought the rears weren't working as well. That is until I set the front vent controls to "up", "eye level", and "floor", or "eye level", or "eye level" and "floor". Parents were relieved haha.

So the trick is to remove the AUTO once you have passengers in the back seats correct?

Yes, play with it, you only need to reach back from the driver's seat to feel the air flow.

I find it ridiculous to use the Auto mode, to let the vent modes constantly shift all over the place where I don't want the air coming out, plus it revs(and lowers} the blower fan
to higher levels making a lot of noise. I find manually setting fan to level 7 almost noiseless with enough air flowing.
I also turn my driver's heated seat on (Level 1) in Oct and never turn it off until about April/May.

I respect owners who use Auto mode, I'm just not one of them and happy to have my own control.

There's also an outside chance that the cable attachment between the rear dial and flapper inside is disconnected. Apparently, that's how my Q5 was delivered, and left me wondering why I had no air in the back, even after following all the guides on the Audiworld.

A trip to the dealer quickly fixed the problem.
