Default 255/40/21 for 2014

So been doing a little tire research for a 255/40/21 tire. That is the listed size for the 2014 SQ5 with the 21 inch option. I am finding nothing listed anywhere on the US websites. Any ideals? I would like to change the summer tires to a high end all season when I get my Q. Maybe as time goes on they will release this size

And in Europe, tire size 255/40/21 exists only for SQ5, not for standard models Q5
I think the size of 21" will not be offered for the standard Q5

Correct, the SQ5 will be offered with standard 20" wheels (21" wheels optional: http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/e..._audi_sq5.html

As for the tire size, your best bet is 295/35/21, but that will depend on how wide your wheels are.

DFrost is right. 295/35/21 will be your closest bet. Your speedo will only be 0.3% off. If for some reason the rim doesn't fit a tire that wide, you can also go with 285/35/21 which is 0.6% off. Another thing to consider is the 35 sidewall. If that makes the ride too stiff for you then you can also stick with 265/40/21 and you speedo will be 1.1% off which isn't too bad. That's less than 1 mph even on the highway, unless your going over 100mph

Not to mention that typically the German manufacturers have the speedometer read a few mph higher than actual anyway (or at least they used to), so you'd just eat into that buffer some.

Default Help with choosing tires for my 16 SQ5

Hi.. I always tend to be confused on this issue.. I am wanting to hear from anyone who has been able to find a seasonal tire for the 255/40/21 's I see Perrili makes a winter tire but is that it? Audi will tell you not to buy those so I am just wanting something that does not wear out as fast as the summer tires do while in the winter.. Any suggestions or recommendations ?

Thanks Jen

There are unfortunately no all season tires in the stock 255/45R21 size. If you're in an area where it's cold in the winter, I'd either get the Pirelli winter tires and do seasonal swaps or get a set of cheap winter wheels. You don't want to drive on those summer tires if your temps are regularly below 40.

There are also some folks running a size up on the 21 inch rims with the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season in 265/40R21. They're apparently a really tight fit but it sounds like they work. You might just want to have small spacers like 3-5mm to add a little clearance.

I had this same issue and was researching it all week. I came up with zero options and finally just bought a set of 19" winter rims and tires from the dealer when I purchased my new Q5 this week.

I did reach out to Continential Tire and asked them if they were going to make a DWS 06 tire in this size and the product manager told me they had been getting a lot of requests lately. Who knows if they build it but I hope so.

Thank you.. I live in Nor Cal so Tahoe winters not that extreme but would like to avoid having to buy 19's on this car.. Escobar ( I named him ha) needs his rims.. Just wish there was more of a tire selection. I saw the Scorpions just was wondering if that was it and I was missing something.. Thank you again for the reach out.. I am forever a dirty AUDI ***** haha

Let me add that I also looked at the 21" Scorpions for my rims but was told by both the dealer and my local tire store that swapping out the rubber every 6 months would damage the bead of the tire and possibility the rims. I just did not want to take the change in a year of a tire blowing because of a bad bead.
