Default 3.2 Q5 is a good deal here in Canada

Hi guys Just want to share what i been thought till I broght 3.2 q5 last week.(Canada)

I am a cheap guy and I really love small engines. So i perordered q5 2.0t with LED head lights ($900 extra) a month ago without even consider the 3.2

until I looked at 3.2 basic last week. the price different between 3.2 basic and 2.0t basic here at canada is 4000 dollars. but the 3.2 have the LED day time running light as a standard where 2.0t need to pay 900 dollar for it. well, LED is a must have if you buying an Audi.

so, after all, the price difference is only 3000 dollars. but 3.2 have 2 more extra features: powered tailgate and ipod music interface. (which is $1000 dollar extra for the 2.0t)

so really after all, the price difference is 2000 dollars.

so I say if you want powered tailgate and Ipod hub, just go with the 3.2.other wise, 2.0t is just as great.

but, I think powered tailgate is a must, its just a blast when you holding heavy bags and the tailgate opens for you.

about the gas consumption: 3.2 use about 1L more gas every 100 km.My old car has 130000 KM on it, say its 1.5 dollar per Liter, thats 2000 dollar more in total for 8 years period. thats like 20 dollar a month.......not a big deal at all.

as a cheap guy like me, the 3.2 looks like a better deal~ and it looks really cool since 3.2 is a bigger number compared to 2.0 ^^

So the difference is 4000 dollars in the end

You also assumed gas prices will remain fixed for 8 years - which's wishful thinking if you ask me. I'd say with gas prices inflation going the way they are now, you are looking at 5,000+ dollars extra for the 3.2

Moreover, your logic of justifying the extra $4000 by standard equipments is far from ideal. Don't get me wrong both engines are amazing in their own way and have weaknesses & strengths. But please don't fool yourself into thinking the 3.2 is better value for money; because it isn't.

How does inflation factor into the difference? The price per gallon would be the same which ever car you drove (unless the 2.0 recommends a different octane) so the only difference would be your mpg. Your 5K quote for the cost difference in the number of gallons used by the 3.2 vs the 2.0 over 8 year is probably pretty close though.

I haven't driven a 2.0 but I love my 3.2. Didn't have a choice at the time but I generally always wind up with the bigger engine after comparing test drives.

Because the OP factored in the savings of the 2.0T over the 3.2 at $2000 over 8 years, based on $1.5 per litter. This is misleading, because as fuel price increase the saving will also increase. I thought it's obvious.

I didn't read his whole original post but the difference in cost for gas between a 2.0 and 3.2 has already been discussed extensively in other posts. Regardless of what he is assuming the price of gas is over an 8 year period, if both vehicles use the same octane the main factor that comes in to play when determining the extra cost of the 3.2 vs the 2.0 for gas cost is the mpg which is approx 2 gallons per fill up. Obviously gas prices aren't fixed but they don't just go up either. The difference is pretty marginal as far as inflation goes so you can just take an average and use that number. You could also throw off the numbers by using a lower than recommended octane as well.

People will use whatever logic they can to justify their purchase. Who knows over an 8 yr period the 2.0 might have more mechanical issues than a 3.2 and cost more money in the end.

Yes like more carbon build-up on the valves of the 2.0T engine

*shrug* Sounds to me like the OP loves his 3.2, while others here like their 2.0T's. No reason to start a war

Hmm in the USA the 3.2 Q5 P+ is $3100 more than the 2.0T P+, and the only difference is the S-line exterior package.

Quick Reply: 3.2 Q5 is a good deal here in Canada
