So this means people with the regular MMI system can upgrade to the newest 2013 MMI 3g system w/ Google maps just by swapping the units + some other parts?

If you already have MMI 3G you have to change Control Unit for information electronics MMI 3G +, Operating Unit for multimedia system -MMI- with joystick and aerial wire (to connect Control Unit with antenna (located on the roof))

I have 2010 Q5 Prem+ with 3G High Navigation.

Does this new MMI unit need and include the navigation map software. Does the Google earth replace the need for navigation data software?

This sounds like a worthwhile upgrade.

wheen Google earth is disabled you can use normal (NavTeq) maps.

iPhone don't have rSAP option so if you jailbreak your iPhone (only 3g, 3gs and 4, not 4s and new 5) you can have rSAP. You have to install (RSAP Server, 19$ I think) software from Cydia to add this function to your iPhone.

I also think this is worthwhile upgrade. As I said before you have to change MMI control unit and control board (located around shift ****)and you can sell mmi 3g + control board on ebay and lower total cost of your upgrade. Only problem here is aerial wire. It is important to find out exact location (route) of this wire to antenna fin. Or you can take new antenna and hide it somewhere if you don't want to rewire or open your roof...
