There a number of superior products on the market now (Avery nano film, Suntek, etc). Make sure you go to a custom installer who does NOT use pre-cut kits. Those honestly look awful in comparison to a hand-cut installation by a professional. It's well worth the money to have someone do a good job, otherwise you are just making your car uglier for no major benefit.
I personally don't put clear bra on cars that ride high and don't get into triple digits often, so I would probably save the money and not do a Q5. My Rover Sport has only one or two chips on the front end and it's almost 7 years old.
For a sedan/coupe/sports car, definitely... and pay the money to do it right. Find a reputable local installer, NOT the dealer.

Also I didn't mean to imply that cars with clear bra are automatically uglier. A good installation will be virtually invisible, particularly if you do a full wrap of the hood rather than halfway up. My GT3 RS has the full front end done in Avery film and even people in the industry have done a double-take when I tell them the car has film on it. It looks awesome, and it protects the car nicely from the beating it takes at the track.

I don't have any experience with XPEL, but I've heard of it. It carries a 10 year warranty against yellowing/cracking, so I'd say that's a pretty good sign it's a good film. I would just try to avoid 3M/Venture, those films are fairly outdated compared to the newer materials (including XPEL).

I use to work at 3M (engineering) before and I have heard people who didn't have issues but read the fine prints....it doesn't cover certain amount of rock diameter and also it some regions it become yellow (i guess due to heat or something). I am not sure if 3M Film got around to fix it but ...just imo
