Yeah, I'm leaning towards waiting for the right car to come along. The only thing that makes it a prestige is the advanced key and thermo cupholder, which I can do without. On the other hand, even with the fees and aftermarket warranty it's at least $2k cheaper than anything comparable.

Walk. There are other fish in the sea and they won't smell as bad.

There are things the CPO warranty does leave out that some aftermarket warranties will cover. Just do your research and make a wise decision. Only look at warranties that show what EXACTLY they "exclude", and read the fine print.

It's pretty unanimous - you should do yourself a favor and walk away from this deal. Maybe there aren't a lot of good pre-owned samples out there now, but that should change shortly. I suspect the 3.0T will prove to be pretty popular, so quality pre-owned inventory should improve over the next few months as leases expire and Q5 owners upgrade. Best of luck.

Thanks, yeah. I've been very careful to read everything.

Good point. I actually heard there was less leases being traded in this year since no one leased in the past couple years due to recession. But yeah, maybe the people that did buy will be prompted to trade in for the 3.0T.

The issues is I don't have a couple months though. I definitely need something within the next 3-4 weeks.

Documentation fees are fairly common and this is a way a dealer can make additional profit. Most buyers focus on dollars over invoice (new car) or trade-in to retail value (used). If everything else added up to a good buy, perhaps this fee could be accepted. However as others have stated, I would also walk away. Sometimes taking the emotional part of buying a car can be tough. Especially when the dealer has your exact configuration and color scheme.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I'm in a strange position where I don't trust the guy, but the price is just too good. I have no reason to believe there is anything wrong with the car, unless he is hiding some misfire SES codes or something. I did drive it and it seemed fine.

Also, if the bumper was repainted because of a collision with something, it was very low speed and didn't cause damage to anything other than the bumper.

If the price seems too good to be true, it most likely is, especially with all the other stuff that's been going on, how shady the dealer guy seems. I'd be really concerned about what else might be wrong (they'll try and hide what you might notice on a drive, and then you're SOL once you drive it much). But in the end it's your money, of course, and if you can try and objectively decide that it's worth the risk, then at least you'll have thought it through.
