Default Acceleration lag on Q5 3.0

After reading a bunch of posts in this forum with positive reviews of the 3.0 TFSI, I though that even after recently factory ordering a 2.0, I really wanted to experience the 3.0, just in case I wanted to change up the order.

I went down to Stevens Creek and Cassandra got me sorted out to test drive the 3.0.

The first thing I noticed, and what I noticed throughout my test drive, is the delay in acceleration when putting my foot down, unless I really slammed it down. Have others experienced this? I asked the sales assistant along on the ride if it was on comfort mode or something, they didn't quite know.

Anyway, i'm sticking with my 2.0 order for now... maybe i'll try another 3.0 next week.

Transmission in normal mode - D (ie not "S"). The transmission upshifts to 2nd just off the line. Driving in S fixes that tendency.

I haven't experienced this at all in 19000km driving my 3.0T. I can't speak for the Q5 2.0T, but I've driven a 2013 A4 2.0T (same engine/transmission) and if you want to start talking about lag....floor it from idle and then start waiting...

I find the throttle response on the 3.0T very progressive. I don't have drive select so that could be the culprit in your experience.

Yep, that sounds exactly what was happening. I'm an Audi newb, so I didn't know better, but the sales person should have!

If you have ADS putting the transmission setting to AUTO also helps so you don't have to drive in S mode all the time.

Yes, this is exactly what is happening. The tranny want 2nd gear ASAP. You often catch it trying to shift to second (almost immediately in a slow roll, typical of moving off from a stoplight). Then you are trying to accelerate as it is trying to shift. After the shift, you get a jerk/surge of acceleration after the hesitation of shifting.

I had my Q5 modified to show the gear it is in while in D. I can tell you that this is exactly what is happening; and it is annoying.

It's one of the many mods you can do with the Ross-Tech VCDS (Vag-Com) cable and software.

Or pay to have the dealer do it; that's what I did.
