I can't find a direct answer to this, so here goes: I have a 2014 Q5 2.0T. If the oil gauge shows the level at just above minimum, should I add some oil?
It seems to me that if there is a minimum/maximum range, minimum means just that....."passable" but one should add some oil.
My Audi service advisor gave me a wishy-washy answer, so I don't want to rely on hm. So, do I add some oil now?

I've noticed that the low oil warning doesn't appear until it's below the bottom of the scale. The last two times I've added oil, the indicator was at zero, but the warning hadn't appeared. I'm getting about 800 miles per quart.

Oil anywhere in the range is okay for operation. Since it is at the lower part of the range it may have been dropping with time and may go out in the future. If you are close to afuture oil change, then don't add. If not, then I would add so I don't get the warning if it does drop further.

I have found whatever you do, add or not add, don't add a full qt. It will max out on the gauge or stick and could get into the warning remove oil. My granddaughter's ride is a 2010 3.2 and if the gauge reads the same as a 2.0 then start with adding a half qt if any at all. Also she has a dipstick and it reads about the same as her monitor gauge, 1/4 reads same on both. my belief is only add when a fraction off of minimum or minute bar fraction showing, then add a qt and it will register completely full and only be a fraction overfill. Anything more than just visible bar left, leave alone. I'm convinced the min and max on the monitor and the two marks on the dip stick represent only a 1qt range, whereas, I'm accustomed to the marks on an oil dipstick representing a 2 qt range. Just my $.02.

If driving local keep an eye on it. A long trip maybe a good idea to keep in the upper half.
All depends how much oil you use.
Consider the gauge to represent a quart. Always add half of what you think to get to full and it will never tell you to remove oil.
Don't let parking on non-flat surfaces fool you into thinking you need to add oil.

Thanks everyone. I still have 3000 miles before next scheduled oil change at 45,000. I'm going out now, buy a quart, and will use half. Much appreciated!
