I thought about that too. I may try something...maybe like Dynamat or whatever car audio folks use to help.
I just don't know where the power steering components are and how to wrap it.
That will def be my next mod!

I traded a 2011 A4 2.0T for a 2012 Q5 2.0T a couple of weeks ago. The Q5 makes a whining or moaning noise that the A4 didn't make. It's particularly noticeable at idle, which I figure is because at a standstill there isn't any tire or wind noise to mask it. This may be the same as the noise in your Q5. Unfortunately I don't know the cause.
I can accept the explanation that it's the steering as described here. I knew before I made the trade that one significant difference between the Q5 and A4 is that the Q5 has a different steering system. That makes the steering explanation plausible in my view, but I'm going to go to the garage and check it out (hose in hand) just to be sure.

Let me know what you come up with mtb. I'd be interested to see what you think.
It's only noticeable at idle or when coasting. Once past like 1500 RPM...its not noticeable with the normal road / wind / engine noise. If our engine didn't downshift while coasting, it wouldn't be as much a pain as it is. That is when it bugs me the most. Coasting and the tranny downshifts when it gets down to like 1200 rpms and you hear the whining go up and down with each shift.
I did just get the new transmission campaign and someone said it changed how it downshifts while coasting. We'll see is that helps.
