Eh, I answered my own question from Wikipedia (assuming the info is correct)... seems like the EX is the same length as the Q5 but a few inches shorter and narrower. I guess it just looks a lot smaller? Some stats below for reference:

Infiniti EX
Wheelbase 110.2 in (2,799 mm)
Length 182.3 in (4,630 mm)
Width 71.0 in (1,803 mm)
Height 2009-: 62.6 in (1,590 mm)

Audi Q5
Wheelbase 2,810 mm (110.6 in)
Length 4,630 mm (182.3 in)
Width 1,880 mm (74.0 in)
Height 1,650 mm (65.0 in)

Infiniti FX
Wheelbase 113.6 in (2885 mm)
Length 191.1 in (4854 mm)
Width 75.9 in (1928 mm)
Height 66.1 in (1679 mm)

BMW X1
Wheelbase 2,760 mm (108.7 in)
Length 4,457 mm (175.5 in)
Width 1,789 mm (70.4 in)
Height 1,535 mm (60.4 in)

I didn't know these numbers were so close. What I can tell you is that interior space feels quite a bit tighter in the EX vs the Q5, especially cargo room.

I agree, its just a poor use of space design wise by Infiniti.

We looked at the EX before buying our Q5. The trunk space was SOOO small. We couldn't even fit our stroller lengthwise, it had to go diagonally (and even then it was tough). Not that the Q5 has the biggest trunk out there, but the lack of space in the EX's was a total dealbreaker for us.

Even though we are #1, we still don't have bluetooth music streaming!

we did too. i actually really liked the feel and drive of the EX, but once i opened the hatch, it wasn't even a contender. that cargo space was TINY. my main cargo item is our 51 lb dog, and she's not that large of a dog. there's no way she could fit comfortably inside that tiny rear area.

it's interesting that the specs are so similar, since the feel of the 2 cars is quite different. the Q5 feels a lot more spacious inside than the EX did.

I am sold on the Q5. But they are pricey. I'm searching very hard for a 2010 prestige. I see one on line for 45k. If I offer 39k 0r 40k should I opt for it? or wait and get 2011 model. I know I won't be saving anything doing that. The one on line is a used 2010 with 5k miles. White and cardamon interior. Thoughts?

I first was looking and almost bought the Infiniti FX - after maybe a half dozen test drives, but also did look at the EX - which IMHO has about the nicest styling in any car (in my price range). But even for my small family or 3, was/felt way too small in the interior - cargo space was nil and the blind spots with that small back window were awful. So after 1 drive, the EX was eliminated from contention. However, one test drive in the Q5 and that was all I needed to decide on geting one.
