Just finished putting on the hitch and picked up my new bike today. I had the bike rack from my previous vehicle(4Runner). Really like both the rack and hitch. While I REALLY wish I had a factory hitch with the S-line rear bumper it's just WAY TOO much money. The hidden hitch was $185 shipped so you can't beat it really.

I think they have an add on that you can buy so you can extend those top straps to inside the trunk and then mount them on hooks or whatever fastening methods available in the trunk. You're still putting stress on the spoiler though.
Instead of doing that I just take my wife's Corolla when I go mountain biking.
The Saris Bones 805 works in a similar way. While its much more sturdy than most Thule carriers you still need to have strap attached to the top of the rear hatch. Especially when you have to travel over some unpaved roadways I'd look at the solution that Reggie has
