The time window for the seating the piston rings properly is very small, maybe the 1st 50 miles. If you buy a car from a dealer's lot, sometimes its already too late. Most manufacturers test their engine in high RPM in the factory, therefore the piston ring seating process is already done.
Most of these articles are written by engine rebuilder who has to break in an engine from zero miles.

I've read similar articles as well. I don't see a date for when this was written, but I'd be surprised if current manufacturing couldn't build those piston rings to tighter tolerances to reduce the need to seat them this way. Though I guess it always depends on how much the car manufacturer wants to spend on that part.

Since Audi does recommend to go easy, I'm thinking they either did spend the money, or already perform this break in on the production line, as the G Man mentions.

This "break in" period has me stressed out. I drive 60 miles round trip 4 days a week to work on the freeway..i live in the city. Im going to have a girl moment and ask you guys what you think..The car was built in Germany and shipped over so it shouldnt have many miles, maybe 50 on it all ready.

Also i heard mention about break in on the B&O too. Any thoughts?

Getting her tomorrow and will be getting the clear bra in stalled as soon as i leave the dealer...Wish me luck!

New cars right from port should have around 20 to 60 miles. Audi does small samples of their new car off the factory floor in Germany and test drives it on their test track for quality control purpose.
Mileage dont mean much unless it is from customer test drives. I had new cars with less than 10 miles on it and it had many problem afterward and a few others delievery with 150 miles and trouble free.
The B&O will break in itself.
The Q5 should be break in this way:
Try to keep the rpm below 3500 for the 1st 400 miles, from 400 to 800 miles, try to keep it 4500. You are all set after 800 miles. Try not to brake hard the 1st 200 miles.
Good Luck

When we picked up at the factory we were told to keep it below 4000 rpm for the first 1000km, about 621 miles.
