Default Burning smell & extremely hot front hood

Hi All,

I need some advice. After I stop and get out of my car, I notice a burning odor coming from the front part of the car. Also. I notice that the front hood gets extremely hot to the touch. Is this normal? It's so hot that it hurts my hands to touch some parts of the front.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this normal? This is a new Q5--only around 1K miles on it.

Thanks.

That definitely does not sound normal. Is there any smoke coming out from under the hood? Does this consistently happen after you drive? How long does it take for it to heat up like this?

I called a dealer and they said that I should only be worried if I am getting some warning lights on the car.

He said that the engine runs at 180 degrees so it's normal for it to be extremely hot.

What do you think? Should I take it in to get inspected?

Have you opened the hood to see any obvious signs of previous fire or coolant/oil leakage? Engines run hot, not sure if it should be hot enough to burn your hands. If you're worried that it'll go up in flames you should have it looked at.

Didn't someone's new Q catch fire and burn down on here. I read it. I would check into it more.

Might worth driving to the dealer and have them check it there. There's another thread about Q5 2.0T catching fire by itself, so better be safe than sorry.

Sorry, I did not see JBDinTX's reply when I responded... 'another' was relative to 'this' thread, not another fire incident, and I was talking about the same electric fire in headlight
