Default Can someone give me a lesson in Ship Tracking 101?

Today's the day our new Q is scheduled to be on the ship to come over. I've seen many references to people's ability to figure out which boat to track and follow it across, and I'd love to do the same. But I have no idea even where to start.

Anyone want to give me an orientation and the steps, site links, etc. that are involved?

In my case, my salesman kept track of it, and sent me regular updates by email.

I've been trying to figure it out the last few days since my sales associate told me it's on the boat. I've spent a few hours searching sites like marrinetraffic.com, but it's pretty hard to narrow down which boat my car is on. I figured I might as well just live with the "Definitely by the end of June, but maybe a little earlier" estimate that my sales associate is giving me.

In the future, Audi will be rolling out a system that lets customers track their cars easier.

Yeah, all I can get from sales is when it loads and when it unloads, nothing more. There have been people here who follow it across the ocean in real time and are the first to know when things like weather slow things down.

Just looking to fill the time while waiting. You mention marinetraffic.com, I'll check that out.

This is at least one of the ship schedules for VAG (I haven't seen if there's others, but there's been rumors that Audis don't always go out of Emden): http://www.pwl.de/static/schedules/vwl_hb.pdf. If the dates for leaving Emden and arriving at whichever port is used for your region matches up, then you've found the ship and can track it (as well as anyone can track ships).

EDIT - Bremerhaven's apparently the other port that could be used, but the best I was able to find was to use the search at http://sagaweb.2wglobal.com/AppSchedules/countryList.do and see if you see anything from Bremerhaven to your port at the right times.

If you know the ship name, go to marinetraffic.com, and you can track the ship's progress.

If you don't know the ship's name but know when it left (dealer should have the name) you can try to find it on marinetraffic.com and look at "ports" and check departures from Emden. Should be heading for New Jersey or Houston.

Mine went to Houston, and I tracked it there.

Good luck, hope you find it.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, I don't see my dates on here. Ship is supposed to be loaded May 24, released to carrier June 11 Brunswick is our port).
