Default Consumer Reports on the Q5

The new Consumer Reports arrived in the mail today; it is their annual auto issue. In it, they describe the Q5 thus:

Based on the recently redesigned A4 the Q5 is a compact, luxurious, and sporty SUV, but it does not come cheap. Handling is agile and sporty, among the best for an SUV. The ride is steady and supple. Braking is excellent, with short stopping distances. The 3.2 liter V6 provides generous power and returns 19 mpg overall. The beautifully furnished interior is very quiet, but rear-seat room and cargo space are modest. Controls are needlessly complicated, often requiring multiple steps to perform simple functions.

Price: $37,350-$48.850

"Adequate" would be a better adjective for the motor, plus the Q5 tops out at almost $10k more.

This is consumer report we are talking about here, if its not a Toyota or Lexus, it wont get top ratings. They should really stick to reviewing toaster ovens and washer and dryers, because their editors dont know much about cars.

CR did take all the recalled Toyotas and Lexus off their recommanded list, but they really had no choice. For years, they have been giving Toyota and Lexus top ratings without even testing them.

CR gave the Q5 the second highest rating of any SUV in its class (behind only the beloved Subaru). I'd say that's a pretty strong endorsement.

Consumer reports is OK if you are an average consumer buying a car, it's not for the "car nut" like most posters here who bring a lot of ego and emotion into buying their "four-wheeled appliances" lol. For the general consumer they are probably pretty useful in terms of establishing reliability records and such

Agreed -posters here probably are not looking for the best reliability, but the for best driving experience.. otherwise we all would be on RX or MDX forums...
