Crunch! Damn trailer hitch (pics? yes)
Nobody was hurt, thankfully.
Not even a full day living in Florida and my wife rolled into an older Montero SUV and kissed the trailer hitch receiver under the bumper. No airbags deployed. Looks like cosmetic, plastic, etc.
Then I got the estimate. Wow! This is going to hurt. At least I can lose the front plate holder now.
Any guesses on the repair costs?

Total repairs thru yesterday cost $8,100. Seriously. For reference, the upper headlamp mounts cracked and the whole light assembly has to be replaced on both sides. Each light is $980. Both the AC condenser and the inter cooler were damaged. The brackets behind the bumper were wrecked. Everything that is plastic on the front of the car, except for the fog light lenses has be replaced. Even the Quattro badge was broken--likely when it was removed or replaced. This is all OEM parts too.

Well, long story short he had $2K in damage whereas I only had to replace the fog light housings. The hood & fenders don't align quite the way they used to, but the car tracks straight and when I asked the tech to check headlight alignment, he said spot on.
Ever see that A&W root beer commercial for "Mr. Dumas"? Pronounced quite another way, of course.

Exactly. The real surprising part is that no real body work is needed. The hood, wings, etc. are fine. I can only imagine how much more it could have been. I think if the bumpers had met, the damage would have been less due to the impact absorbers. The trailer hitch has no give and the front end just took all of the impact and spread it out.

I want to mount a paintball gun behind the grill so that I can mark those idiot drivers. You know the ones; inconsiderate, left-lane owning, arsehole, texters, & the like. That way, if you see someone driving with a splash of orange paint on their vehicle, you would know to avoid them. I'm not an aggressive driver, just assertive and I know where the hell I'm going! "Get the f**k out of the fast lane, govna!"
