There are rumors out there that BMW still havent fix the fuel pump problem in the new N55 turbo engine. If you are looking at the 2011 X3 xDrive35i model, I would wait until you know for sure the fuel pump problem is fixed.

With a new transmission, hopefully their transmission issue is no longer an issue. That was one of, if not the biggest, complaint I have seen about the outgoing X3. There seemed to be no work around.

Here is something I quickly drafted to compare the Q5 and X3. Not all the specs have been released, so this doesn't show the complete picture on paper:

(Talk about almost identical dimensions)

Q5 vs X3 (2011)
Length: 182.2 in vs 183.0 in
Width: 74.0 in vs 74.1 in
Height: 65.1 in vs 65.4 in
WheelBase: 110.5 in vs 110.6 in
Ground Clearance: 7.9 in vs 8.4 in

Trunk: 29.1 cu.ft vs 19 cu.ft
Max Cargo: 57.0 cu.ft vs 56.6 cu.ft

2.0T Premium VS xDrive28i:
Curb Weight: 4090 lbs vs 4,100 lbs (est)
Engine: 2.0L I4 turbo vs 3.0L I6
Power: 211 HP @ 4300 rpm vs 240 HP @ 6600 rpm
Torque: 258 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm vs 221 lb-ft @ 2750 rpm
0-60 mph: 7.1 sec vs 6.7 sec
Base Price: $35,200 vs $37,625

3.2 Premium Plus VS xDrive35i
Curb Weight: 4299 lbs vs 4,222 lbs
Engine: 3.2L V6 vs 3.0L I6 turbo
Power: 270 HP @ 6500 rpm vs 300 HP @ 5800 rpm
Torque: 243 ft-lbs @ 3000 rpm vs 300 lb-ft @ 1300 rpm
0-60 mph: 6.7 sec vs 5.5 sec
Base Price: $41,925 vs $42,500

There's more bad news for supply.

Lots of dealers got stiffed for the 2nd month in a row and NO allocation to build Q5's.

Being that it takes 3 momths to build and ship cars from Germany, there's going to be some serious supply problems in the next few months / 1st quarter of next year.

You missed one of our biggest claims to fame:

2.0T
20mpg city/27mpg highway

I'm sure this stat will hit the BMW big time.

I think this is what is happening to me. I placed an order on Sept 25th and still don't think the order has gotten past the "IS Order Bank"...

Still waiting with no word from the dealer. I had really hoped to have this for my wife before the winter set in on the East Coast...

Bummed,

I sure hope this doesn't become a case of Team Q5 going down the length of the field and Team X3 intercepting the ball in the endzone and going all the way and scoring 6. Pardon the football analogy

Are they custom building you a vehicle from scratch or are they just modifying a vehicle that's currently being built to your specifications?

I believe that they are building one from scratch...

That's excellent news for anyone wanting to sell their Q5.
