I had seen this too. Pure conjecture on his part IMO. If the TDI is coming, why has Audi been so silent? The only reason I can see is so MY2012 sales aren't compromised.

I hope it's true, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I've heard the rumor too many times before. M-B will be offering the updated 2013 GLK this fall with an optional 2.1 liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel. The 204 HP/369 lb-ft (!) oil burner is said to provide highway fuel economy in the upper 30's. It should be available by the end of the year. I'd prefer to stay with Audi, but I'm getting tired of waiting for them to finally offer a diesel in the Q5 or A4 Avant/Allroad. Diesel fuel is less expensive than regular unleaded right now here in the upper midwest.

They've been teasing us for years now. Coming SOON in 2019 !!!!
Audi is ridiculous with their holding out on the U.S. Market. This car has existed in the UK and Germany for a long time already, as has the RS5, etc. There is a shelf life on these things...

As far as lack of public notice of a pending arrival of the TDI in the Q5 impacting 2012 sales- well, too bad. People will buy products they want and that are available. If another manufacturer offers something that competes with the Q5 TDI and Audi loses that sale- who is responsible for that?
I replaced an A4 wagon a couple of years ago with an A4 sedan. We are switching our vehicles to one SUV and one sedan. I had hoped to buy the Q5 first, but decided to wait for the deisel option. Recall a few years ago when Audi held the TDI parade across America? This was trumpeting the arrival of lots of TDI's to North America. So, I decided to switch my car replacement strategy to buy the A4 first, hoping the Q5 TDI would arrive later. I am still waiting....
