Didn't realize that I was "stressing" the transmission just by downshifting manually since I always considered this part of normal usage on a manual transmission. My usage is akin to what kleinbus states and I was just trying to figure out the best way to get engine braking to slow the car down some since this car doesn't seem to have a natural response. May be I'll just focus on buying that manual shift :-)

if you engine brake like kleinbus states, then you should be fine.

I've noticed the high rev on hills as well, wasn't sure what to make of it, sounds like it's normal? My last car was a new model MDX, definitely didn't rev high on the hills, was gutless!
