Didn't realize that I was "stressing" the transmission just by downshifting manually since I always considered this part of normal usage on a manual transmission. My usage is akin to what kleinbus states and I was just trying to figure out the best way to get engine braking to slow the car down some since this car doesn't seem to have a natural response. May be I'll just focus on buying that manual shift :-)

i use mine when driving on hills and its reving to 3k rpm. i don't need to waste gas and accelerate up the hill i can go steady. or if i want to put it into another gear. its great on the highway for passing power. pop it into 4th or 3rd and just take off like a rocket!
