Default Elderly group in Q5 survives crash with a Train!

Wow these things are SAFE if they can take on a Locomotive!

According to deputies, a 2009 Audi Q5 SUV driven by Daniel Diaz, 70, of Tampa was struck by a CSX locomotive a railroad crossing. The passengers in the vehicle were identified as Caridad Diaz, 70; Modestina Leguen, 89; and Berta Diaz, 71, all of Tampa.
At this point their injuries are considered serious, but appear to be non-life threatening.

Amazing

Looks like the hit was to the front of the car beyond the door, which is not surprising. No matter what car you're in, taking on an 80-ton locomotive from the side is surely a death sentence.

They're lucky it was only the engine and not a load as well. How dumb do you have to be to attempt to cross tracks when the arms are coming down or already down. Regardless of age, some people shouldn't have a license.

The call to Julissa Diaz de Maria's phone was obviously an accident. Her father and mother could be heard discussing Sunday dinner plans. The phone must have gone off in a pocket or a purse.

Then the mother started screaming: "Daniel! Daniel! Daniel!"

The father yelled in Spanish, "Oh, my God!''

The phone went dead.

Diaz de Maria and her husband jumped into their car and retraced the route to the parents' favorite pizza place.

A few minutes later they got to Tampa Road and State Road 580 in Oldsmar and saw police lights, ambulances and the 2009 Audi Q5 with four family members inside.

A train had plowed into the sport utility vehicle.

Diaz de Maria screamed. Her husband sprinted to the mangled vehicle.

"I thought they were dead," she said...:

Arent you guys giving the Q5 a very too much credits here, I know the Q5 is pretty safe but that looks like nothing but a minor accident.

Not sure if you read the article fully. Surviving ANY train accidents is somewhat of a miracle. It doesn't matter if it was in a RAV 4 or a Q5, as long as you come out alive that's all it matters

Far from a minor accident I think

Looking at the Q5, there is hardly any damage, it looks like the Q5 like bump into the train slightly, but you are right, it could have been a lot worst.
