Default Factory hitch - Bumper cut out.

Hello, I want to install the factory hitch on my Q5 and since it's white and non S-line, I would like to minimize the opening in the bumper. If I only cut a hole just big enough for the receiver(see image below), will I be able to install the lock pin? Regarding the 7 pins connector, I will fix it somewhere else.

Pic shows S-line but mine is not.

Ok, I found a picture from the side and it should be ok for the lock pin.

$1500 with installation from my Canadien dealer.

I will probably install the 7 pin connector on a custom braket somewhere behind the bumper. I won't be as easy to make the connection but I prefer this than a big cut out in the bumper.

I also thouth about leaving the connector in the trunk but I don't know if it will be possible to close the hatch with the 7 pin cable (when in use).

You can't even see the cutout for the 7-pin plug unless you get on your knees!

I recently had the Draw-Tite hitch installed (model 75708) and while it sits just beneath the bumper (high enough so it's out of the way and you have to bend down to see it) you don't have to cut the bumper cover or fascia at all (which is what I liked). Total price including install was about $300 at a local place which specializes in hitch installation.

I am using it only for a bike rack so I didn't do anything with the wiring. It's my understanding that the Audi hitch kit includes the wiring harness and when the dealer installs they reset the Q5 computer to optimize shifting/throttle response for towing).

ELEVENS:

Very nice work. How did you cut it? Was it pretty much careful dremel work? I'm thinking about doing the same to mine.

Thanks for any tip you can provide.

Yup - dremel. The factory cover has lines on the backside to guide where to cut. But it's a tedious, messy job. Take your time and you'll be fine. Don't slip!
