Default Why buying demo?

I'm somewhat concerned about transmission problems mentioned in these threads:

The 2009 Q5 is a Prestige and has all the nice stuff like B&O, MMI, and side assist. But it's black ext, black int.

I'm wondering if $48k is too much when I can order a new 2010 Q5 Prestige for $50k in the colour I want (deep sea blue). I'm figuring that for an additional $2k, I can get a new 2010 with 0 miles. But then I don't have that additional 50k warranty that the 2009 CPO offers.

And just to muddy the water more, I'm also considering a new 2009 Acura MDX Tech for $45.

Both are very nice. One minute I'm leaning towards Q5, next I'm thinking MDX.

sigh ...
Why are you buying Demo Q5? I don't recommend it. Second, why buying 2009? It 2010 in less than 1 month.
Don't settle for less!!!
Get 2010 Q5 and bargain with the dealership.
Remember you are the one with the $$$$money!!!
And there are many dealership out there.
Go to Cars.com or Autotrader.com to find out the market price. Also go to Edmunds.com for dealers invoice.
Goodluck to you.
Beware Q5 have many problems and especialy with their transmittion.

Is there a wide spread problem with the Q5's transmission? I have never heard of one.

First I've heard of it. Provide some proof please. Personally 25,000km and no problems at all. Great car!

These threads talk about the problems a few have had with the transmissions:

well, I have to report that we didn't buy a Q5. With your comments, I decided that the 2009 Q5 wasn't right so I tried hard to work out a 2010 deal. I thought that a diff dealer 3 hrs away was willing to make a sale but it didn't work out because the lowest he would go was $500 off msrp on a 2010 Prestige and a very poor trade offer for our car.

My wife was pushing to get the MDX (since the car was for her anyway). She got sick of my few weeks of deal making and failing so she finally said that enough was enough, she wanted the MDX. She's happy (which equals happier life for me) but I'm disappointed that it's not a Q5 in the garage tonight instead.

Thanks much for your help. Maybe next time.

You can always find isolated threads about any car having a number of problems. Honda transmissions are some of the worst in the industry, they run hot and they are under-designed. I had a last gen MDX is few year back, its just not the same car as a Q5. The MDX inspire one to drive like a old lady while the Q5 is build for both comfort and performnace.
The price tag on a new MDX is certainly no bargain neither, At $40+, it should have real wood trim better built quality and better leather. With the new MDX's funny looking shield for a grill, the Acura dealers are having a hard time selling it, that is why you got a good deal so easily.
