After months of pressuring Audi Chile to give me a production date after having paid up front in MARCH for my SQ5 (!) and after having mentioned that not being given a production date after so long was nuts and that I would soon be cancelling the order due to very poor customer service, I received a call telling me my car was now aboard the GRAND VENUS car ship on its way here to arrive late Nov/Early Dec. I am happy it is finally on its way but very pissed off with Audi Chile and their very poor way of keeping a customer informed.
Anyways, the car is on it's way and I will have it for the summer holiday in December (Southern hemisphere here!).

Congratulations on finally getting some word on your Q5. I'm sure it will prove to be worth the wait (8+ months!).
I agree with Mika, I wouldn't pay up front for a car either. You loose all leverage with the dealer and more importantly, I'd rather have the money in my accounts vs. the dealer's.
Good luck!

To be fair, he's in Chile and it's possible that things work a little differently there vs. here.
Regardless of whether it's the norm or not, I'm glad things have been progressing. I don't think my TDI ever had a production week assigned, it just ended up getting built and the dates filled in as it completed (or just before it was going in or something), so it's not unheard of for the info to not be available, though it can still be frustrating especially if it takes so long to get into production. At least in my case I still had estimated dates after production (leaving Germany, arriving in the US and at the dealer) even when production itself wasn't there for whatever reason, you'd think they could've gotten you something at least, so you have some idea of when it should be in.

Getting closer now. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Mika & Q5 Bob...I had to pay in US$ so I took an educated guess to pay in March rather than on an, at the time of order, expected delivery in September (exchange rate changes etc). As it happens I have saved over US$10,000 by paying up front!
idale, you got it right. It was the complete lack of ANY information that was upsetting. After paying US$98,000 for the car (not cheap down here!) I wouldhave expected at least an update or two but nothing until I started getting a bit shirty with them!
