Default Finally got snow tires for the Q5

The summers are now all safely tucked away

And I like how the new Pirelli tires protect the wheels

I so wanted 19" Dunlop 3D which make a 235/55/19 but don't import it. So then I tried to get a Nokian but after a month of waiting and no idea when that size would come off backorder I had to settle for these.

They don't look bad compared to the S-Line 20"

Looks great Reggie. Any other pics from a distance? I've always been curious how things would tie together with the RS6 wheels (always been a fan of them). Where did you find the wheels? I had considered looking for a 20" set.

Thanks

These photos were from my phone - will take some this weekend with the Nikon.

The wheels are Hartmann and they are 19"s the biggest they make. Got to say they are strong - never hear of bent rims by them. I have 20" for summer use and I think they are too wide for snow and ice as I put Conti DWS on the 20s and never felt like I had control in bad weather - never skidded or anything but never felt comfortable. We are due for more snow on Saturday so I will get a chance then to try them out. The 8"s of snow we got last night is all gone from the roads now - I love Colorado

The Hartmanns look good, Reggie. I think that's a smart choice for winter . . . simple and easy to clean. I have mine ready to go, too, but unless we get a threat of bad weather, I'll wait a few more weeks to bolt them on. Attached are a few pictures of my Nokian Hakkapellitta R's mounted on 18" TSW Vortex wheels. Bring on those lake effect snows!

Love those Nokian's. ;-)
Mounting mine Monday.
I will say that I am very impressed at how well the 20" S line summers did in the 9"-10" teaser we got last weekend.

I love them - I had other ways before but the tire rack from TR is the best

Reggie, a question for you. I've looked on Tirerack.com and the only 19 inch options they have for the Q are the Pirellis and the Bridgestone DMV-1s. Any reason you chose the Pirellis over the Bridgestones? I've had the DMVs on a previous vehicle and found them to be a great winter tire, but I'm worried about them getting squishy when the temps are warmer. I live in Utah, so our climate is similar to yours in Colorado. Just looking for some insight on which to buy.

I'm not a Blazzack fan - but it it just a personal thing. The Pirellis seem to have a tread pattern more like the Dunlops I wanted and the Blazzacks were block like. The ratings on TR were about the same for both tires.

I had heard in the past Blizzacks had a different material half way after they wear. May not be true anymore but made me think.
