Default Gas mileage with 2013 3.0t - poor

Had a 09 Q5 3.2 and was getting an average of 21.5 city/highway, with the 2013 3.0t I'm getting 18.5 city/highway driving. Expected better mileage with 3.0t (according to sticker). I only have 2000 miles on 2013 Q5, sure hope it gets better.

The EPA estimates show 21 mpg overall, so your not too far off. The mileage should come up with some more miles.

The first 5-6000 km higher consumption, it will diminish
This is normal with all new engines

Cold climate takes it's toll as well due to increased air density (higher wind resistance), longer warmups, wet/snow means more rolling resistance, winter fuel blending, more electrical use (heated seats, lights, etc), snow tires, etc. etc.

I live in the south where it's going to be 90F today and I'm only averaging 19.2 mpg. I am not impressed with the mileage up to this point. I am still hoping for an improvement, but at 2500 miles it's almost at that point where it's supposed to get better. When I drove an A6 3.0T for a week, it averaged 27mpg.

For whatever is worth. I have the 2.0T and getting 3.0T in a week or so.
The best I got on the 2.0T was above 27 MPG 200 miles trip, two people plus 120 lb climbing gear in the mountains up and down terrain. Calculated.

Last tank I go just a little bit over 20 MPG mostly commuting to work, 10 miles one way back country roads. On average I would say I have been getting around 22 MPG - calculated. Just to give you some idea.

BTW: the MPG display in the car is garbage. Not sure how they calculate it, but my 2003 passat was also off but much, much closer. No complains, just stating the fact.

If you have VCDS you can make the correct fuel consumption
