Default +1 w/ prior answer

The transit time is the biggie of the delays. Plus some time is burned on the front end as they work it into the build schedule at Ingolstadt where they are building on a worldwide basis (except China and maybe India) with a whole bunch of other motors and trannies and options (and stripper models too) we don't even see here. You would find similar time frames for other Euro manufacturers with a lot of individual ordering, and it's worse on the West Coast for folks like me where the transport ships have to come through the Panama Canal first. For the ones on the lot, the dealer is just doing the same thing, ordering what they think will sell about 3 months ahead.

Ordered my 1997 Chrysler T&C AWD on a custom basis/loaded just after they re-introduced AWD after a multi year and generational hiatus. That took about 6 weeks, and it came by simple rail from a plant just over the Canadian border IIRC; no customs clearance there either, which also happens behind the scenes for any non-North America vehicle. Of course, on arrival at the dealer, first thing they had to do was respray the driver's door pillar, which they didn't quite get fully painted at the factory...

Is there a different engine on the 2014 3.0T version? I don't want to hijack this thread but I'm also debating the 2013 vs 2014 Premium Plus 3.0T model.

Cheers!

3.0T is the same, it's just the 2.0T that was recently tweaked.

Noticing quite a few 3.0T prem plus 2013 models on cars.com today in scuba blue which is the color I really want. Wondering how much negotiation room the dealers will have on the 2013 since the 2014's are arriving.

Does anyone know the current residual and MF for 2013 3.0T premium plus? ridewithg only has 2.0 values.

Wish these boards had an ask-the-dealer section like bimmerfest does. Reading there is really educational.

No dealer section, but there may be people around who can answer such questions. I know over on AZ there's some salespeople who frequent the boards, not sure about here on AW (in the Q5 section, at least). Can always put up a new thread to ask about those sorts of details and someone who's recently leased or is otherwise in a position to know would hopefully be more likely to see it.

Dealers will be more flexible on a 2013. Do not hesitate to make an offer. Keep in mind the Q5 is the #2 sales model in North America, so someone else may be bidding too. In my experience (limited and local) the remaining 2013s have lured options, bug still may be desirable to you.

Glad I opted for a 2014.

I'm confused... you state going for a 2013 could be a good option, then finish with stating you're glad you chose the 2014?

I don't want to answer for the other guy, but I think what he's saying is that if you can find a 2013 configured the way you want it, the dealers are ready to give you good deals on those cars. The problem is that most of the 2013s that are left are loaded with a bunch of stuff you may not want, thus jacking up the price beyond what a new 2014 would have cost you, equipped only with the options you wanted--making the 2014 a "better deal" if out-the-door price is your most important factor.

If you have the ability to wait, the smartest thing to do would be to hold out for the 2014.

Even if price were the biggest factor, (which it shouldn't be if you find the right dealer) you're still better off waiting. - A used 2014 3-5 years from now will resale higher than a used 2013.

The 2.0t 2014's should be showing up in Canada mid to late July, while the other models are expected to land in Halifax mid August.
