That's nothing. Throw a tune on a 2.0T Q and it'll do the same thing. (with the right driver of coarse)

I assume you folks know that is European WRC pipeframe rally car that looks like Ford Fiesta.

For WRC rally teams that are sponsored by Ford Europe (so the vehicles look like Ford Fiesta) those units are build in UK by one of the WRC rally car builders there.

Ken Block is awesome show driver but that's it, he tried to keep up the WRC but on real race he is just mediocrity and the top of WRC out of his reach. WRC have been and still is dominated by Finn's, Swede's, Norwegian's and French professionals.

Edit: The model is Ford Focus (not Fiesta)

What I find amazing is how they manage to keep that thing from overheating giving it such a pizzling while virtually at a stand still.

Kleinbus,
Any idea what the transmission is like in these things? Is it a sequential dog box or is it a dual clutch set up? I'd assume the former.

I'd love to be able to add a clutch pedal to my 135i DCT so I can disengage the clutches manually for handbrake turns.

my other car is a daily driver ford (when and IF I have to go into the office !)
but it only has 450 hp and 850 or so lbft and tows a 35 ft, 11000 lb rv ...

Agree - his wrc efforts were middle of the pack at best....
but that's middle of the BEST IN THE WORLD pack teehee

so while his much edited videos are still good - it's entertainment and marketing only ...

my daughter test drove a fiesta once - obviously not that one

I'm not WRC engineer but these are few known UK companies involved with top end rally racing.

Prodrive Motorsports UK
http://www.prodrive.com/default.html

Geartronics UK
http://www.geartronics.co.uk/links.htm

As far as I know, the WRC trannies are sequential with engine-tranny computer controlling the engine cut off at full throttle and air actuator for shifting. It's not H-pattern, it's just up or down like on motorcycles.

It's funny how each brand have own name for dual clutch system, originally the German word is DSG (Direkt Schalt Getriebe) and English version is Direct Shift Gearbox.

Crysty, I'm not sure is there a simple "add a button" for Beemers DCT to control the clutch for handbrake turns as the transmission reads the speedo and also the output shaft speed and releasing one clutch on dual clutch system (one open and one active) gets more complicated (as now you have two open while vehicle is moving) than on one clutch (standard or sequential) system. <O</O

I have always ben a Ford nut but I love great cars. Our TT and this new Q5 "S Series" are the finest rides, they just cost a bit more. My next "gotta have" is the 2013 Ford Focus ST. I have a 1985-1/2 Ford Mustang SVO (mint, original owner, $10K) and a 2005 Mustang GT (45K miles) on the block. So it should be an even swap, or close. This Focus ST will be loaded as best I can do it. And it will be the first one in Maryland if I can pull it off.
Any thoughts? I think this will be a fun car. I'll miss the SVO but I just don't drive it except to shows (two 1st's at Carlisle PA Ford Nationals).
