Check the 2014 order thread, it maybe longer than October.

My order went in July 11th and my eta for delivery is October 21st!

So I would wager November-December for a custom order.. Unless you find one in process already that is not sold.

My vote is for TDI(i'm biased)..

But I went for MPG rather than the SPG(smiles per gallon) of the SQ5.

The real world difference will most likely be 10mpg combined.

So that 3k initial extra cost is not the end of it..

10mpg combined can easily save 600 bucks per year..

So after 4 years of ownership its more like 5-6k more for the SQ5.

S-Line + package can help that alleged sloppy steering. Figure out your priorities, make a decision, and go for it.

I have a black pear w/ black interior SQ5 and love it. You will too. One word of warning. It seems everyone wants 21" wheels. If you check there are only a couple of high priced options with this tire. Many more reasonable options with 20" that don't have to be replaced every 10K miles and don't cost $1400.

Perhaps it was in my head, but when I sat in the S in the showroom, I thought the seats were far more comfortable than my 3.2. Just sayin'.

So they just found a SQ5 Lava Gray metallic with black interior
Carbon atlas inlay
Audi side assist (don't need but can deal with)
Bang & Olufsen sound system
MMI Navigation plus package
Wheel and tire package
Fine Nappa leather package

Think i am going to pull the trigger.

Interesting choice....based on your initial post I'm comparing almost the EXACT same thing. If the TDI was offered with S-Line WITHOUT the plus I think I would jump on it instantly (having a Q7 TDI in our household, it's a great engine).....

That said, after today I've test driven both and the SQ5 was certainly 'impressive.

Here are the two cars I am looking at:

SQ5
  • Phantom Black Pearl Exterior
  • Black Interior w/ Nappa Leather upgrade
  • B&O sound
  • Audi MMI Nav
  • 21" Wheels

3.0 TDI
  • Daytona Grey (my favorite... love lava as well) Exterior
  • Black or Chestnut Interior (both are available)
  • S-line Plus package (20" Titanium wheels, S-line bumpers, Brushed aluminum inlays) black cloth headliner, high gloss black optics, audi adaptive dampening suspension, audi drive select controls, matte black roof rails, 3-spoke S-line flat bottom steering wheel)
  • Sport package (required with S-line package)
  • B&O sound
  • Audi MMI Nav

Pluses for the SQ5...
  • Horsepower
  • Sweet sounding
  • Nicer interior - stitching in offset color, shift ****, steering wheel, dials
  • Unique grill
  • It's an SQ5

Negatives for the SQ5...
  • Worse MPG (more frequent filling)
  • Slightly more expensive ~$3k

Pluses for the TDI...
  • More MPG (less frequent filling)
  • S-line black optics if your into that
  • Color I like better (Daytona only comes in the S-line)
  • Cheaper

Negatives for the TDI...
  • It's not an SQ5
  • S-line black optics if you don't like them

I would love to hear peoples thoughts.

As a side note, I could order an SQ5 in lava... I just have to wait till October to receive it. This is an issue as my car was totaled a few months ago and I have been renting a car for the last month after my insurance provided 4 weeks of free rental.

Thanks!!

Well you kind of nailed it when you said "Negatives for the TDI...
It's not an SQ5"

Just do it! You will not regret it. Sounds awesome. I love the 21" wheels. The tires handle great.

Totally biased opinion as I'm an owner of a phantom black with black interior SQ5, but I would say SQ5 all the way. Someone pointed out that the torque of the TDI is very impressive put of the gate, but it leaves something to be desired over 40-50 mph. Now that my SQ5 is starting to get broken in, I'm messing with the sport mode a bit more....and all I can say is "Wow!". I'm not an attention getting type, but a lot of people have already commented on the sexiness of the SQ5 and ,any admit they didn't even know that they were building this model. My $0.02
