Default hit a moose last night

At dusk last night this animal jumps out from the underbrush right next to the highway - cars coming from the front. Nothing I could do but slam on the brakes and watch as this animal tumbles across my hood, windshield and down the side of my car

I pulled over, jumped out and could hear the animal crashing through the woods as it was running away
Drove the car to the next town - getting a rental and car will be towed today.

At least I am not hurt

Time for a nice makeover for my car on my insurance company: New front end, new hood, new windshield and driver's mirror. It will need a bit of body work on the left rear quarter panel where the animal must have hit before falling off the car.

I'll say you were lucky....lucky it didn't come crashing through the windshield! The animals are so tall I'm surprised the impact didn't break one or more of its legs. Glad you and the Q will live to see better days ahead!

Default Glad no one was hurt

Moose are big nasty animals. Not cute like Bullwinkle. You are fortunate that it was just your car and not you. Cars can be repaired.

I am impressed with the little damage you have. You must have only hit its rear end, because normally it just feel off on the car, causing extreme damage to the windshield and top of the car!

Again, steel and plastic can be repaired or replaced. A life can't. I am glad you have nothing!

Wow, you are very lucky indeed. I have seen much worse damage and injuries from deer which are MUCH smaller than moose.

About 20yrs ago I had the misfortune of crossing a moose's path on an uninhabited road in Alaska. I swerved and rolled my 4mo-old SUV 3x. No cell phones back then, so I hiked a few miles to the closest house to call the police. When the officer came, we rolled the car back onto its wheels and then I drove home. I wasn't hurt and the car got repaired, so I think it could have been worse if I hit the dumb brute.

A real testament to how strong the Audis are. Glad you are OK. Many people die each year from these accidents.

Good to hear it was just mangled car as you can always replace cars but it's not that easy with human parts or in worst case, life....

Spot on, most of Moose accidents in Finland and Sweden are high speed collisions where the Moose body crashes the top of windshield in and kills people sitting on front seats. If driver is lucky to detect the animal early enough and able to slow down then the danage is pretty much what happened here, after all, it's one of the largest animals roaming there...
