Default Intalling Escort Smartradar in Q5

Just got a 2012 Q5 Sline, always been an installed K40 guy, but decided to go the Valentine One rout this time. Upon doing some research starting to learn that the beloved V1 is becoming outdated, (yes I know everyone loves it as well as the arrows)but this is what I read. My father has an Escort 9500ci hardwired into his 2010 S6 and love it, Escort is using GPS to keep track of red-light cameras etc...however, installed that runs around 2k. So I stumbled upon the SmartRadar ($449), which uses all the same tech as the 9500 but with less install then the ci and more stealth and class then the xi. See Below... https://www.escortradar.com/escort-smartradar/
The guts mount behind the mirror and are roughly the same size as an EZ-Pass and can be hardwired into the mirror or fuse box for a power source and a tiny display sits on top of the rear view mirror. Buying this also give you access to Via iphone Bluetooth to Escort Live to track real time radar and laser pings as well as police sightings (and yes supposed to be better than trapster). Once you get pinged by radar or laser the signal is sent via Bluetooth to your phone with notifies other users. Seems pretty cool, but we'll see. I should get the device tomorrow and will hopefully install this weekend. I will post pictures once it's complete.

Good luck on the install! Will be interested in seeing which fuses you will be using for power, etc...

Congrats and welcome. Its a bit of an unfortunate start though breaking the TOU. It is certainly a very well thought out and written post a bit like spam. Please prove me wrong. Tell me this is at arms length and you are not affiliated with the product.

For now I will let this stand but if there are any complaints by vendors sponsors or other forum users this thread will be pulled.

I'm sorry, I'm new to this and don't know the rules. What is "the TOU"? Im no way am I affiliated with any product, I'm a 28 year old bond trader from NYC and car guru, especially Audi's. Since 2002 my family has had: 2002 S8, 2004 A8, 2005 S4 cab, 2008 A6 4.2 sline, 2009 A5 3.2 sline, 2010 S6, and 2010 S5 cab. Now I have a Q5. Let me k ow what else I can do. I am really excited about this and would like to help people out and get feed back since there really isn't any on this subject. However other treads about the V1 have helped me greatly and I would like to give back.

Sorry, Chris

Cool I thought/hoped as much. TOU terms of use. Hey dont sweat it at this point. Like D_Frost says we will be interested to see how you get on.

You can pick up a live/switched live from the fuses behind the end panels of the dash either end. There may be more info on V1 hardwire on the Q7 forum if its any use.

PS the public warning was just to deter anyone from bothering to report the post and show other mods I'm here.

Again welcome.

I think it comes with a short phone cord that is meant to tap into the switched on off wire and ground in either home link or auto dimming mirror. We shall see..

Does anyone have any idea how to remove the rear view mirror? I think the plastic housing and the mirror are all one piece. The one and only website I found (below) says to twist counterclockwise. Before I rip it off the windshield can anyone varify this is correct?

Thanks

I just mounted my 9500xi with smartcord live. Radar is mounted up under the right side of the rear view mirror, power cord goes into the mirror wire covers on the glass, along the top headliner, down the A-pillar under the lower dash cover, to the smartcord control box. The power then goes under the center console and I tapped into the armrest cigarette lighter pre-harness, under the shifter surround cover.

Placed a piece of vinyl under the box's adhesive so I can easily remove it one day. Nothing was permanently modified.

Phone is held either in my window mount or the included a/c vent mount to show the map.

Best money I ever spent...
