iPod to iPhone 6

2011 Q5 here. Ever since got this car I have been listing to music via my old iPod using the iPod interface cable that connects to the Q5 via a port in the glove box. The iPod remains in the glove box 24/7 and shows up as a device on the Source screen when I go to listen to music. I can listen to all the songs and playlists on the iPod through the Q5. This has been a great solution for years with only one problem: the memory capacity of the iPod limits the amount of music I can take with me.
Since obtaining a new iPhone 7+ I figured I would put my now surplus iPhone 6 to use and take advantage of its greater memory capacity by swapping it for the iPod. I purchased a new cable (since the old iPod and iPhone 6 don’t have the same interface), but when I connect the iPhone 6 to the Q5 it does not quite connect. The Q5 recognizes it as a “External audio input” but it won’t let me select any of the music on the iPhone 6—even though it is physically connected via a cable. What gives and how can I fix this?

Make sure you have the "right" cable by part #. On a 2013 I have moved around among iPods and old iPhones, both 30 pin and newer Lightning and it just takes the correct cable. For example, those cables are not the same as on either my older or newer A8/S8 even if the physical ends are the same.
You can also just use a 30 pin to Lightning Apple adapter on the end of the older 30 pin cable that sounds like it works for you already. BTDT too. AFAIK, only thing you may get can be observed between the older and newer cables is album art, but not even remembering offhand which cable and which Audi can or can't do that.

So exactly what part # do I need?
