Fresh ride! Congrats. Bummer it's your gf's though

Regarding the tow hitch...I initially wanted one on my SQ5, but after seeing hitches on reg Q5s, I'm now on the fence about (messing up) altering the fierce look of the rear of the SQ5.

Mine is folding with a removable panel. Defo wouldn't get one if it was fixed.

I don't know why but I know in the USA hitches are supposedly not fitted factory on any Q5 (SQ or not) and are apparently fitted at the port...?
Example here; http://audiusanews.com/audi/assets/s...ingOptions.pdf

I guess there is some regulation that US hitches have to pass? Surprised your dealer didn't know this...

As the US SQ5 is not lowered it should have the same fitting as the Q5.
U.S. laws are different and require certificates for all of the changes on the car

Exist two models of suspension which is built into the SQ5.

yeah, I know right?

I did buy it for her, so I'll at least get driving rights a few times a week... if I'm lucky.

There are two different models for the U.S. market + Australia and the rest of the world.

I really like the rest of the world fold-away hitch.

How illegal is it to trailer with that in the US if one were able to acquire the parts.

I'm guessing very illegal, not to mention grounds for insurance claim exclusion in case of a accident?

Here is the reply my dealer got back from Audi about the tow hitch:

"There has never been a tow hitch option available to our knowledge on the SQ5 due to safety regulations. If you would like you can send VIN or commission number of this vehicle and I can look into the history of all modifications that were made to this vehicle to verify."

After confirming with them that it was on the vehicle at one time this is the other response:

"So looking on the history string it was on the vehicle, but unfortunately it was removed by the factory liaison because it was not a valid option code for this vehicle. They will completely strip that option from all units because it is not possible and the factory just will not do it. We believe it is because the vehicle is more of a sports car and only comes with summer tires. Sorry about this, let me know if I can help with anything else!"

I'm trying to see if I can get the factory tow hitch installed at the dealer.

I think for the same reason as for the lower suspension SQ5 no installed towbar - legal regulation in the U.S.
For Audi would be much simpler to have only one suspension and.....
