Lack of remote start option

Remote starters are just not a German thing and all manufacturers frown on idling vehicles. I don't know of any German cars that are available with factory starters.

haha, $4.29 for gas is very funny try doubling and that's what I've been paying for the last 6 years.
Audi not having the Auto Start Option makes sense, on my Audi there is a Start/Stop system that shuts the car off when you come to a stop to save gas and the environment.

it's not only about warming up - here in vermont, on so many winter days, when i'm getting ready to go out and drive, i see an inch thick frozen snow sheet on my windshield (expecially when i come back home while it's snowing - snow falls on the glass, melts and freezes. I just may, one day give up and do it "canadian way" - get one of these ridiculous carport canopies :>

hehe... extra-long warranty (5.5 years) was a major reason we chose Audi...so i guess it's not in the cards.
As for "saving the enviroment" - i'm all for it! Yet i still have to idle my car in order to thaw the windshield (the design that makes it impossible to lift wipers, without a serious risk of damaging blades doesnt help here either!). Good thing there are as of yet no "enviroment cops" lurking into private backyards trying to fish out and fine the offenders, so i still can just run outside, sit in the car, press the break and start the car and go back home to finish mt coffee!

Remote starters are a really inefficient way to pre-warm your car. Parking heaters are very common in Northern Europe, especially with diesel cars. They are probably more expensive to get installed than remote starters, but a lot cheaper to use.
See Webasto (www.parkingheater.com) for example, I'm sure there are other brands as well.

apparently New Jersey dealers have a guy who does remote start and it doesn't void the warranty because it's dealer installed (at least in New Jersey, still uncertain if all dealers accept it). We are interested in getting it done but if it's too pricey or voids the warranty outside of New Jersey it doesn't sound plausible. Anyone head anything like this?
