I agree with you on the A4 not seeing the 3.0 Supercharged. The lineup seems on par:
A4 2.0T --> 328i
S4 --> 335i
RS4 --> M3
Just because the A4 isn't getting the 3.0 Supercharged, doesn't mean the Q5 won't have it. The N55 engine in the new X3 should put pressure on Audi to either bump up the 2.0T or offer the 3.0 Supercharged (like what they've done for the Q7).
Just my $0.02.![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Sadly the oil burner (3.0 TDI) Q5 will not be offered in the USA ever. This is due to the need for urea/Bluetec or whatever they call it. There just is no space in the car for the additive tank and California will not allow the larger diesel without the additives to reduce emissions.
The smaller 2.0 TDI as offered in the Golf and A3 does not need additives to meet emission standards, so if we are prepared to settle for the 2.0 twin turbo diesel as in the VW Amarok 1-tonner for the Q5, we *may* be able to see a Q5 diesel here.
I am not holding my breath though, and unfortunately there is a greater probability of a hybrid Q5 than a diesel. The 3.0T (gasoline supercharger) will be very nice.
BTW, the 2.0 bi-turbo diesel specs are:
"The biturbo TDI is rated at 120kW, delivered at 4000rpm, and a seriously muscular 400Nm just off idle - with 350 of those Newton-metres still pushing you along at 3500rpm."
In the Amarok application performance is:
"VW quotes a 0-100 sprint time of 11.1sec and a top speed of 171km/h, at a cost of only 7.9 litres/100km in the ECE combined cycle and 208g/km of CO2"

I'd go for the 2.0T Q5 in a diesel. But they'd need to tweak the power up a bit.
You'll need an extra 35-40hp and get the torque closer to 300 - and we'd have a winner.

400Nm ~ 295 ft/lb - close enough to 300ft/lb as you suggested.
I think that motor will work well in the Q5.

I don't know, until we see the 3.0t in an A4 I don't think we are going to see it in a q5, and I don't think we are going to see it in an A4 as long as it powers the S4. The car certainly doesn't need anymore power, the only gain would be on the efficiency side, and in that regard, I think we are much more likely to see a hybrid setup.

I'm not sure you read what he wrote correctly. He said the 3.0T was powering the S4 and that we wouldn't see it in the A4 as long as that is happening, also with it being in the S4 it most likely won't make its way to the Q5 either.

The new X3 will be strong competition and may prompt Audi to expand it's engine choices.

I think a 300hp version like the 3.0T from the A6 would be a perfect fit in the Q5 with the X3 35i coming: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ive/index.html

Sorry, yeah, I think we're all thinking the same thing. To me saying the 3.0T isn't in the A4 is a little misleading as the A4 and S4 are the same platform. I think we probably will see the 3.0T in the Q5 in the next 18 months to compete with the new X3 35.
