Default My TDI MPG so far...

I've averaged 26.4 MPG (actual calculations) over my first ~2000 miles. This was pulled down due to towing with a trailer for 500 miles, and didn't get great mileage on the way up either often traveling faster than ideal. In some sections, when keeping it under 70mph, I was getting about 34 MPG (actual).

So now I hope to see it increase from here. Of course, I'm also enjoying the torque of the engine now that it's got some good miles on it, so I won't have wonderful MPG as this is too much fun But I love that I can do that and still get better MPG than I was getting in my A3.

I'm seeing about 10% error in the trip computer for the 2 tanks that I recorded the value. After 5 datapoints, I'll consider adjusting the computer to be more accurate:

I'm also enjoying the high # of miles per tank. The lower values (258 & 407) were because I chose to fill up before leaving the next day for a 500 mile drive. The 450 fillup was because the MPG with trailer wasn't as good and that was all the tank was good for (only got 22.8 MPG on that tank). In general, I expected 500+.

Mark,

When you consider the EPA combined rating is 27 mpg, and you have been pulling a trailer on your vacation, getting 26.4 mpg doesn't seem horrible. I am sure you are enjoying the sport mode, and not using cruise control during break-in has made this a worse case situation.

Keep us posted.

I am expecting my Q5 TDI mid october. Can't wait.

Could you explain what you can/are going to do there?

The basic premise is you can adjust the calculation by a %. It thinks it's doing it correct, so it's at "100%". But if you find it to be 10% high, as I am so far (ie hand calculations 30mpg, but trip computer says 33mpg) , I'll change that setting to be "110" instead, which should adjust it's calculations so it will show values 10% less fuel efficient than it does currently.

I had a post here that I identified some VAGCOM mods that I might want to do now:
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...php?p=24480786

In there, I link to a former post which contains two pages that list out many of the possible mods you can do:

On this site:
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-complete-list
You'll find:

Adjust Consumption in DIS
[17 - Instruments]
[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 3
change 100 to xxx (see samples below)

Sample 1 - Calculation based on volume per distance (e.g. l/100km):
DIS: 9,3 l/100 km.
Real: 9,8 l/100 km. (100 * 9,8 / 9,3 = 105,38)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 105

Sample 2 - Calculation based on distance per volume (e.g. MPG):
DIS: 23 MPG.
Real: 24 MPG. (100 * 23 / 24 = 95,83)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 96

And on this site (which is just a repeat of the above for this item, but is a good site for some things not on the former page, and this site sometimes has more descriptions included):
http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagCom.html

You'll find this:
http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagComDIS.html

Correct Consumption in DIS program [17 - Instruments] [Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 3 change 100 to xxx (see samples below)

Sample 1 - Calculation based on volume per distance (e.g. l/100km):
DIS: 9.3 l/100 km.
Real: 9.8 l/100 km. (100 * 9.8 / 9.3 = 105.38)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 105

Sample 2 - Calculation based on distance per volume (e.g. MPG):
DIS: 23 MPG.
Real: 24 MPG. (100 * 23 / 24 = 95.83)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 96

Default Torque

Mark, once you go diesel, you rarely go back

(Try "108" as your correction value on the trip computer.)

Enjoy.

Thanks, Mark.

Slightly off topic: which version of the VCDS interface do you recommend?

Is this where you guys get yours?

Get from Ross-Tech themselves or from an authorized reseller (they have a list on their site). The only interface that will work is the HEX+CAN-USB (older, less-functional cables won't work properly).

I'm in the process of upgrading my old HEX-USB from 10 years ago in anticipation of my Q5 coming in as we speak.

Yeah, what idale said. You can see I ran into the same here:

Ha, thanks

Why 108? Based on your car, a variety of other people's cars, or mine?

I plan to wait for 3 more tankfuls (all using the same station/pump so they shut off consistently) and then see how my data looks.
