I'm not quite sure the dealer is correct. The MMI in the nav cars is a completely different system than those without. Not to mention, the setup is different. Have you seen the nav cars? The MMI controls are down around the gearshift while in non nav cars, the controls are in the center stack and the nav buttons are missing. It would be a really hard and very expensive mod if it is even possible.

Here's a thought. You're paying thousands to do something that is a $3000 option. The $3000 is not just for NAV, but a completely different MMI. (non nav cars have a version of MMI, but is not really MMI). To install it and change everything that needs to be changed in the car, will cost you a lot more. Why not just get a NAV car in the first place? Seriously, I don't think you have any idea what is involved. How do you plan to switch over to nav without the nav button? Your talking a completely different center console between the MMI and non MMI cars.

Personally, I'd go with a portable unit (for car, bike, boat, etc.).

Plus, I'm sure the fee for Audi to update the maps/points of interest for GPS on the MMI will be a lot more than than for a portable unit, which is a DIY.
