to do it my way, thats 8 hits of the lever. I miss a good manual tranny. 6 to 3 no problem.
I can't disagree with that. A good 6-speed manual eliminates so many variables. Too bad they're getting so hard to come by. I don't think they'll ever go away completely, but they're definitely on the endangered species list - especially here in the US.

Its about the same as the 3.2L 19 city and 28 highway. In the A6, the 3.0T engine cut the 0-60 time from 6.8 sec to 5.3 sec.

I hate 8 speed transmissions, it's just too much. say you're doing 50mph and you want to overtake a car, you have to drop down to 3rd gear, thats 5 gears to drop.
I think its pretty close to your 335. I was just on the highway today, 75 MPH probably doing about 1800 rpm. The advantage of an 8 speed is it can have a higher final gear ratio than a 6 speed. I think you are turn off by the 8 speed because you have it in your Q5 and you are limited by the 2.0T engine power. Imagine how slow that 2.0T Q5 would be with a 6 speed. The 8 speed tranny does a very good job in keep the both the 2.0T and the 3.0T engine in its sweet spot.

Not sure I am in line with the 8 speed OR 2.0T issues you speak of...
of course I did opt for a $400 tune that dropped my 0-60 to about 6 seconds in our q5...and bounced the stock hp from 211 to about 270 and torque even more substantially and comes on at a much lower rpm... really reminds me of my diesel suv when it starts to pull.

let's just say both I and my wife are 'sporty' drivers and the downshifts and passing have never been a limiting factor... I guess it's all in expectations ?

Put it in S and promise it will be in the correct gear for all your needs as it holds the gear you are in until the sun sets

We like both our cars, one tows 11k+ lbs and the other scoots like a sports car...(but I too would wait on the 3.0T !)

Now if Audi would just get off their duff and get the nav maps up to this decade!!!

I read that Audi may be going to Google maps for their next nav.

Google map is a nice toy, it was fun at first, but now I hardly use it in my A6. When the free subscription expires, I don’t think I will sign up for it. The Google map and Audi connect internet service is about $50 a month, that’s on top of the satellite radio and traffic which is about another $20 a month. I don’t know if the 2013 Q5 will get the touch pad, that’s actually pretty useful, you can enter address by writing on the pad with your finger and it double as a radio preset 1-6 buttons.

I checked the Q today, at 70mph its at 2k rpm.

the only difference between the 335i and 335d in gearing is the final drive. I don't believe that an 8 speed has any advantage over a 6 speed in highway mileage. explain how my 335d 6 spd revs lower than any 8 speed i've seen at similar rpm.

i'm not a fan of 8 speeds, they feel like cvt transmissions.

How much does your MPG suffer with all that extra power?...

Coolieman !!! clean off that steering wheel top

MOST tunes actually HELP mpg...
at least it has in all my other cars and what is reported on the net by those I know are straight shooters...

but honestly, it's the wife's daily driver and haven't paid much attention to it...
once you are past the floor it to enjoy the new tune period,
and drive somewhat sanely, it should be at or a little better mpg...

oh, and we REALLY didn't buy the audi (or the tune) for the mpg
For certain though, it does give much better smiles per mile !!!

there are much better mpg cars out there with the styling points of tin cans and handling of shoe boxes!

G Man Isn't the Audi connect-Google $30/month alone? Not sure if I'm misreading your statement.

Agree about the 8 speed/power of the 3.0T...it's phenomenal. At 75 MPH the car still wants to take off and run and passing at on mountain roads a breeze. Mpg is good for such a powerful engine as well.
