From what I can decipher from this page and plugging in the AC and AD part numbers:
- 4F0051510AC is for MMI 2G or 3G with AMI
- 4F0051510AD is for MMI 3G+
Went ahead and pre-ordered one from AudiUSAParts.
Even though I'm not crazy about the enormous connector it's better than a cigarette light adapter
ps - Thanks for the heads up !
i noticed that there is a spacial adopter for the the MMI 3G+. How do i know if i have an 3G or 3G+. i can't tell the difference

A few of the MMI iteration differences (not all):
MMI 2G came with a limited nav POI database and color nav screen.
MMI 3G added selector **** map scrolling and a more comprehensive internal POI database as well 3D map view.
MMI 3G Nav Plus (aka 3G+) added Audi Connect with online connectivity features i.e. Google Earth overlay, online Google destination search, wifi hotspot and others.
In North America, the then new 2009 B4 chassis series (Q5, A4, A5) came with MMI 2G. MY 2010 intro'd MMI 3G and MY2013 intro'd MMI 3G NAv Plus with Audi Connect.
Just took a leap of faith and ordered it via eBay, direct from the UK - and this is after having been told by an Audi parts/services employee that the Audi MMI system was based on "analog" technology (which made it compatible with the 30-pin connector) - and that, by definition, would not be compatible with the Lightning/8-pin connector, which is based on "digital" technology. All this sounded very technically accurate at the time... so this new cable, and the eBay seller's assertion that the cable is compatible with the 2013 Q5 kinda gives me hope that this will actually work in the 2014 Q5 TDI as well...

So I purchased this exact cable, and received it today. Video is still not working, but album art does show on the MMI. The album art will only work for the apple music app or a video which will only play on your apple device (although audio will play through the MMI's speakers). Spotify's album art won't show unfortunately. I'm really disappointed that video won't play on my MMI unless it's via DVD(edit: or SD). I used this with my new iPhone6 Plus in case your curious.
I also noticed that the MMI won't allow me to import music from Apple device to the Jukebox while utilizing this cable.
