New Q5, steering feel not there yet
Hi folks,
Our new Q5 (3.2 Premium Plus, Nav, S-line, 20" wheels) doesnt have the best steering feel as of yet. Only about 350 miles on it, so is it possible the mold release compound hasn't fully worn off yet? I also brought the tire pressure down from 44 (from dealer) to 35 psi which is closer to stock.
Just wondering if I may need to break in the tires a bit more before steering feel/handling is optimized.
Thanks.

The audi steering is a weird one. It takes away a lot of feel but it feels great. You don't feel things in the road oyu dont want to feel but you feel the car in the corner. I like it because its great when driving for comfort.

coming from a person who never drove an audi till i got my Q...The steering feels differnt in general.I feel like im driving a go cart, 6500 miles now. No complaints, just something to get used to

Don't get me wrong, i love how the Q5 handles (compared to other SUVs), but i would hardly say like go cart. I drive/drove a BMW 5 series, a BMW 3 series coupe, and a VW GTI and i would not say about any of them that they felt like go cart! But their steering feedback are closer to go cart than the Q by miles

Update:
The car now has just a tad under 500 miles on it and the tires feel sticky and broken in. I am liking the feel now, particularly on the highway. Very low speed feel is still a bit odd to me (I feel a bit of that shudder that people complain about, so may address that later). The tightness at high speed is fantastic. I'm coming previously from BMWs and also drive a 911 so the bar was set (unrealistically) high :-).
Also, I am trying to gauge the overall affect of Quattro on the handling of the car but can't tell the difference yet (from rear wheel drive). Obviously I would in snow, but I suspect it makes a nice difference in dry handling too. I am still taking it easy on the car and haven't tested power or traction limits, so once I break in a bit more then maybe I'll notice. I have never owned an all wheel drive before.
